Description: A very hardy selection (it grows in Madison, WI with no protection - zone 4b). Selected at Newport Nursery of Newport, MI. Leaves are bluish green. Plumes are extra fluffy; hairs turn red pink in color - very striking! Very heavy flowering - literally completely covered in bloom! It was so highly prized that it was patented (expired) in 1959. Both Gary Kohler (Arnold Arboretum) and Dr. Ed Hasselkus (Univ. Wisconsin arboretum) think very highly of this particular plant. It is one of those plants that are highly prized by people in the know but just hasn't made it in to our industry yet! Until now!!
